I thought you would like to know that Asheville is upgrading their parking meters with sensors that would provide Android and iPhone users with the "Parker" app installed information about available parking spaces.
I know we all complain about parking availability in the Downtown Asheville area. My biggest complaint is usually with the parking garages. So, does this help solve one of Asheville's civic engineering nightmares? Maybe.
Here is the kicker. If Asheville decides to move forward beyond the 50 test parking spaces it is installing the sensors in, it will cost $200,000 tax payer dollars to install the sensors in the 700 parking meters. THEN, it will cost the City of Asheville $233,000 a year in fees! WOW! So, in ten years we will be out $2,533,000 of tax payer money. I wonder what else that could be used for?
